Ever since EvokeTV.com shut down a few weeks ago (Good-bye EvokeTV) I have been looking for a suitable replacement. The main feature that I am looking for is an RSS feed of just new episodes of TV shows that I like. This was EvokeTV's best feature and sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, let's just say I still haven't found what I'm looking for after checking out TVrage.com, TVlisings.com, TitanTV.com, MyEpisodes.com and BuddyTV.com.
Briefly, here's my take on those web sites.
TVlistings.com
This site just has a TV schedule grid, much like Yahoo TV and TV Guide. Not Web 2.0 at all, they don't even have RSS feeds.
TVrage.com
This is just the opposite of TVlistings.com, no grid and official TV listings at all. TVrage relies on individuals to take responsibility for TV shows and create content.
MyEpisodes.com
This is really just another interface for TVrage.com.
BuddyTV.com
No TV schedule listings at all. BuddyTV is all about online chat rooms while TV shows are airing (a feature EvokeTV also had). I have been hanging out here during Lost episodes.
TitanTV.com
Not exactly what I'm looking for either even though it bills itself as the definitive source for TV. TitanTV seems geared to people with PVRs (which isn't me). However TitanTV does have a reminder feature for individual episodes with RSS and iCal support.
So this is what I have been doing, every few days I scan through the TV grid on TitanTV and set reminders for the shows that I want to see. I have the reminder RSS feed in my Netvibes page for easy access. It's not as simple or easy as EvokeTV was but I guess it will do for now, the search continues . . .
