The sad message on ABC's web site.
Just a few weeks ago I looked forward to Wednesday nights but no longer as ABC's LOST won't be back until February and The Nine, also on ABC, has gone on hiatus.
ABC says The Nine will be back but doesn't say when. In all likelihood The Nine is gone, if I'm lucky then I will at least get to watch the remaining episodes online. Otherwise I guess I'll never find out what happened in the bank during the 52 hour hostage seige or how the nine survivors handle life afterwards. I also suspect one of the nine was an accomplis but now I may never know if my hunch is correct.
I'm not a big TV watcher but Wednesday night was a full night for me - Jericho (CBS) followed by LOST and then The Nine (both ABC) - but now I'm left with just Jericho and it was my least favorite of the three. I'm used to disappointments like this. I was a big fan of Freaks and Geeks and just last season Heist was cancelled before they even got close to robbing the three jewelry stores on Rodeo Drive.
So, I now have several free hours of TV watching to throw behind an under-appreciated TV show or two. Are there any TV gems out there that I'm missing?
Update: I just noticed that Jericho will have its fall finale tonight, so that pretty much wipes out Wednesday TV for me.
On the web: The Nine official ABC web site.
Wednesdays have always been a "trash tv" night for me. Project Runway during the spring and summer, Top Chef in the fall and winter (both Bravo TV) and America's Next Top Model (CW). My brain needs a rest sometimes - I'm not ashamed to admit it.
(I'm still not over the cancellation of Freaks and Geeks and it's collegiate counterpart, Undeclared.)
And by the way, I don't like LOST's replacement, Day Break.
The two-hour pilot for Day Break worked for me, but subsequent episodes required my brain to work a bit too much for me to call myself a fan.
For Wednesday TV viewing, I suggest the most excellent Bones, a show that I wrote about way back in March of this year during its freshman season. Although Fox doesn't advertise it nearly as much as the network's more mainstream hits—such as 24, American Idol, and Prison Break—the series has a loyal fan base, interesting and unique story lines, and an exceptional cast that works on every level. I just finished watching it and was psyched to learn that the next episode two weeks from now will be directed by none other than David Duchovny, The X-Files' Fox Mulder, himself. This December 13 episode will also reportedly feature Kathy Reichs, the forensic anthropologist and best-selling author on whom the show is based. Those are just two additional reasons to check out Bones if you haven't before.
I've heard such mixed reviews on "The Nine," so I gave it a try online and could not make it through one episode. Guess we have quite the different tastes, since I have found Lost to be rather boring this season and really enjoy Day Break (it is a nice brain twister to try to tie all the clues together and figure out what is going on).
Another vote here for Bones, a fun formula show that has not gotten old yet. And another vote for my guilty pleasure: Medium.

jeff
you guys got it bad, I got it paradoxically good. Since I've been gone around mid-september, I have missed all the new shows and all the new seasons. When I get back in late december, I'll have a TV orgasm. So many new shows, so little time.
I can't wait to watch LOST again! I got 2 1/2 weeks left.
Turns out Hurley is the polar bear...
Whoops! Spoiler alert. ;)
Fat jokes... those never get old. What's next, Mr. Richards?

Settle down, Beavis. That's actually an allusion to a light-hearted claim by Steve Watts that Hurley is a werebear. It has nothing to do with the man's girth. Go check out the article so you can put the joke in context and then you can get back on your high horse and continue scouring Newsvine for faux outrage...
Ha! Beavis.... I was just giving you a hard time man :)
Another vote here for Daybreak... finally a show that requires the viewer to think. Some claim this is true of Lost.
<nerding it up> I'd say that Lost is like Organic Chemistry while Daybreak is like Quantum Optics. One requires you to memorize a lot, the other requires you to think about what you already know.
Yes, I've taken both :) </nerding it up>
I missed it when the George Lopez show was on Wedns...

Mythbusters is on Wednesday on Discovery Channel. It's kind of old hat, but still entertaining (and much better than Jericho). I'm guessing most people have at least heard of it, but just in case:
MythBusters is an American pop science television program on the Discovery Channel starring special effects experts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, who use their skills and expertise to test the validity of various rumors and urban legends in popular culture. The show is narrated by Robert Lee and is filmed primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area.
(Newsvine won't let me properly link to the source. For some reason, one article, several seeds, and months worth of up-modded posts isn't enough for Newsvine to think I'm trustworthy with links. But I digress. The quote is from the Wikipedia "Mythbusters" article.)
