American teenager Freddy Adu is returning home after a two-week trial with Manchester United.

The Ghanaian-born attacking midfielder trained with players from the club's youth academy, and Red Devils manager Alex Ferguson said Friday he would consider looking at the promising 17-year-old Adu again when he is 18.

"Freddy has done all right," Ferguson told reporters. "He is a good talented young boy but there is nothing we can do about him because he's not 18."

Under FIFA transfer rules, Adu, who plays for MLS club D.C. United, is not allowed to transfer to a club outside the United States until he turns 18 on June 2, 2007.

"Freddy has done all right," Ferguson told reporters.

Does that mean he wasn't fantastic? EIther that or Ferguson is keeping a tight lip about how well he ready did so as too limit interest from other clubs.

    Interesting assumption.

Sir Alex has always been tough with praise. He had Beckham, Scholes and lots of others as young guys and wasn't terribly effusive with them. He could be Pele and Ferguson would find fault.

I am betting they write a big check.
