Eagles: Another offseason with questions

advertisement

PHILADELPHIA — What's next?

It's the same question the Eagles ask themselves every winter.

The Eagles, who saw another shot at the Super Bowl fall short on Saturday, head into the offseason with some serious issues to address.

Which free agents already on the team should they bring back?

What parts of the team need the most improvement?

Should the Eagles count on quarterback Donovan McNabb to be ready at the start of next season?

Those are just some of the questions the Eagles need to answer.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Eleven Eagles — linebacker Shawn Barber, running back Correll Buckhalter, quarterbacks Koy Detmer and Garcia, cornerbacks Roderick Hood and William James, safety Michael Lewis, running back Reno Mahe, free safety Quintin Mikell, wide receiver Donte Stallworth and defensive end Juqua Thomas — are scheduled to become free agents in March.

Who should the Eagles re-sign (if possible)?

Garcia, Stallworth, and Barber. I haven't seen what other teams have as far as free agents to be but these guys (maybe except Thomas) are in for raises. It depends on their cap situation but those three would top my list. Garcia for obvious reasons. Backups are hard to find and he fits nicely. That is really the question. There may be better out there but he fits. Stallworth because you can rarely rely on the draft for receivers and again he fits. He seems to have chemistry with both QBs which is rare. Barber because you want some consistency on both sides of the ball and you probably arent going to find much better. The next toughest to replace may be buckhalter and Detmer. But I think you can find a rb more readily. Unless Detmer is willing to come back at around the same salary, you dont want to waste the cap space.
