Ubuntu Feisty Fawn: Desktop Linux Matured

advertisement

During my 8 years of Linux on and off usage I have tried more distros than I have chocolate bars. Each one of my previous encounters meant that I had to spend at least 2 days configuring before I have a desktop that I was somewhat comfortable with. With Ubuntu Feisty Fawn's latest test beta --for the first time ever-- this was not the case. I was up and running with all the niceties I wanted within 2 hours.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I'm running a previous version of Ubuntu on an old IBM notebook. Now that I have a new iMac, is it possible to run Feisty Fawn on that, and where could I get the drivers I would need for video, etc.?

I don't have an answer for you, sorry. However I can point you in the right direction: Ubuntu.com and UbuntuForums.org .

I recently set up Ubuntu on an old Celeron box and I didn't need any drivers other than the ones that were installed with the install disk. ( My Ubuntu Linux Project, Installation )

Ubuntu Forums has this posted:
** FEISTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR EVERYDAY USE RIGHT NOW IT IS ONLY IN ALPHA. **

I hope this is of use to you.

Thanks. I'll have to look into it there and on the Mac forums.
