While being interviewed on ESPN earlier today, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Steve Wyche stated that Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank could possibly release quarterback Michael Vick by the end of the week.
If this turns out to be true, the Falcons would face some significant salary cap issues. At the very least, they would take a $6 million cap hit this season and a $15 million hit next year. However, paying $21 million to dump Vick may be in their best interest at this point.
That's a big cap hit.
Why not wait and if he is convickted then
the Falcons can get some of his huge
signing bonus back?
Good point. The Falcons are getting a free ride here, and the whole dogfighting thing might be the best possible thing that could have happened to the team. I suspect many of the team's officials wanted to release him a while ago because of the:
a) Ron Mexico incident
b) Marijuana-water bottle incident
c) Middle finger incident
but couldn't because of the salary cap hit. Vick getting convicted would let the team get rid of him without having to pay the penalty.
a) Ron Mexico incident
b) Marijuana-water bottle incident
c) Middle finger incident
d) horrible play
e) injury-prone
f) stupid
I think there should be some concillatory actions taken to ease the hit off the Falcons. Perhaps cancelling the 21 million for next season. But then again... I'm a Falcon fan :)
