Forget the Philadelphia Eagles' performance Monday night, like most teams the Eagles do not play their starters much in the first pre-season game. Game two is tonight against the visiting Carolina Panthers and the Eagles will play their offensive and defensive starters for most of the first half.
Donovan McNabb will start for the Eagles and will play for at least a quarter. FS Brian Dawkins, G/T Shawn Andrews and TE L.J. Smith will not play at all. CB Lito Sheppard may play some. Rookie TE Brent Celek and rookie RB Tony Hunt will get some playing time with the first team offense.
Of course I want to see how McNabb is doing but I am more concerned about the defense. I'm still looking to see if the Eagles defense can stop the run. Are the defensive tackles stopping the Panthers' running backs or are the linebackers making most of the tackles?
Special teams are also a concern of mine. Get this, the Eagles are going to try P Saverio Rocca as holder for field goals (probably in the second half in the first half). Saverio Rocca is from Australia and the AFL (Australian Football League) and was a professional Aussie rules player. This summer is the first time ever that he has tried to play American football and he has been practicing punting, now the Eagles are trying to see if he can hold on kicks as well. This could be interesting.
