DC United and Chivas USA in an Entertaining Draw

Ante Razov got credit for Chivas USA's first goal.

For the first thirty minutes it looked like DC United would dominate the match but a freak goal seemed to wake up Chivas USA.

DC United did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Luciano Emilio (3') scored just minutes into the match with a rocket shot from just inside the 'D'. Twenty-three minutes later Emilio netted another goal. This goal came off of a rebound given up by the Chivas goalkeeper on a shot by Jaime Moreno.

Then five minutes later Chivas scored on a strange goal. United goalkeeper Troy Perkins sensed some danger to his left out around the 18 yard box so he ran out to kick the ball down field. Another United player blocked his view of Ante Razov who was also running to the ball. As Perkins kicked the ball Razov (31') ran around the United player and the ball rebounded off of him and headed towards the United goal. Perkins picked himself up and ran back for the ball but he was not quick enough and the ball crossed the goal line just as he got to it. This freakish goal seemed to inspire Chivas USA and they finished the half playing well and almost scored another goal in the 39th minute as a shot went off the United post.

The second half was well played by both sides but Chivas was the only team to score. Lawson Vaughn (60') netted the goal for Chivas on a deflected shot (off Clyde Simms?) through a crowded United goal mouth. There was a bit of drama in stoppage time as Chivas midfielder Francisco Mendoza took a pass and went in alone on Perkins but was called for offside; the replay clearly showed that he was onside.

In the end, DC United have to be happy with the draw. Chivas USA are a good team and to get a point at their stadium is a good result. Chivas also have to be satisfied with the draw, they were down 2-0 and came back to almost win the match.

What's next for these two teams? They both play Sunday. DC United host the Revolution who are just one point behind them in the East. Sunday night Chivas USA host the New York Red Bulls before facing the LA Galaxy next Thursday night.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

There wasn't a lot of standing around in this match,
the players kept the ball and themselves moving just about the entire time.
