NFL Sunday Night Preview: Eagles at Giants

advertisement

The Philadelphia Eagles travel to New Jersey to face the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. Both teams are off to a slow start and have just one win with two losses. Neither side in this NFC East rivalry will want to go 1-3 to start the season.

The Eagles are a 3 point favorite but I would not bet this game if I were a gambling man. Both sides have several starters who are Out, Questionable or Doubtful for the game (see below for full injury list).

Runningback Brandon Jacobs and WR Plaxico Burress are listed as Questionable for the Giants.

The list is longer for the Eagles: TE L.J. Smith is Out. CB Lito Sheppard is Doubtful and will most likely not play again his week. S Brian Dawkins, RB Brian Westbrook and CB William James are listed as Questionable.

However the injury that may have the most impact on the outcome of the game is Eagles LT William Thomas (formerly known as Tra Thomas). Thomas protects Donovan McNabb's blind side and is real good at it, he is a two time All Pro. With his absence rookie Tackle Winston Justice will start. Justice was the Eagles second round pick in 2006 but has not impressed anyone that much so far into his career.

This will be the first start of Winston Justice's career and he will face Giants' DE Michael Strahan and DE Osi Umenyiora, both who have gone to the Pro Bowl in their careers. This could make it very difficult for the Eagles to score tonight.

This game is too close to call, so just sit back and watch a hard fought battle between two teams that do not like each other.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

OK, if I had to pick this game with the point spread then I would go with the Giants. Manning has not been horrible this season and the Eagles secondary is banged up. McNabb will probably be looking over his shoulder the entire game.

Ouch that was an ugly game. Winston Justice really really sucks...

Justice looked bad last night but it was his first start after not playing much last year (I think he was hurt). The Eagles drafted him as a replacement for William Thomas who is getting old and nearing retirement (and this is Thomas' last year under contract).

The only thing uglier is my fantasy match-up for this week.

Mydree, at least you have your Phillies. Can I officially get on that bandwagon?

I'm already on the bandwagon, I did predict them to lose the World Series... ;-)

I would never have been on board with them if it hadn't have been for fantasy baseball. You know how there's always those one or two players that always wind up on your team, even when you do automatic drafts? Well, Utley and Rollins have been my corner infielders for 3 years now, simply by chance. I've come to love them, and follow the Phillies as a result.
Add to that, I love an underdog. As a Mavs fan, I stuck with the team through the 90's Decade of Despair, so any team that has lost 10,000 games in their history is a team I can get behind.
If I'm welcome on the bandwagon, I say Go Phillies!

Thanks for the acceptance, Mydree. I won't let you down. The Eagles might, but I won't.
