MLS Preview: LA Galaxy v NY Red Bulls

advertisement

Tonight 11:00pm ET, ESPN 2. This is the final regular season Thursday night game. The Galaxy have yet to secure a post-season spot but the Red Bulls already have done so. David Beckham looks to be a substitute in tonights match.

Los Angeles Galaxy
9-6-13, 33 pts., 5th place in the West.

With six straight wins the Galaxy are on the cusp of the play-offs. A win will really help them as they approach the final weekend of the MLS season. A draw would not be the end of the world either but a loss would end their play-off hopes.

Players to Watch: Cobi Jones (shirt #13) is retiring after this season so it may be one of the last times to see him play. Landon Donovan (#10) is still a leader of the Galaxy.

Injury Report: DOUBTFUL: DF Ty Harden (L hip); QUESTIONABLE: DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF David Beckham (R knee); DF Quavas Kirk (L foot); PROBABLE: FW Alan Gordon (L groin); DF Abel Xavier (L knee).

Card Trouble, suspended next yellow: Ty Harden and Kyle Martino.

Suspended: no one.

New York Red Bulls
12-6-11, 3rd place in the East.

The Red Bulls have assured themselves a play-off berth, they will face the Revolution in the East's semi-finals.

Players to Watch: Juan Pablo Angel (Shirt #9) trails the league scoring leader by just a single goal. Jozy Altidore (#17) is a teen-age phenom with 8 goals and 4 assists from 21 games.

Injury Report: OUT: DF Kevin Goldthwaite (L knee injury); QUESTIONABLE: MF Claudio Reyna (L toe sprain); FW Mike Magee (R knee injury).

Card Trouble, suspended next yellow: Jozy Altidore and Joe Vide.

Suspended: Dema Kovalenko (five cautions; through Oct. 20).

Notes:
Home versus Away,
Wins-Draws-Losses,
a Win equals 3 pts.,
a Draw equals 1 pt.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I expect the Galaxy to win this, they are playing well lately
and the Red Bulls have already made the play-offs.
