Feeley shows Eagles' future without McNabb almost here

advertisement

Donovan McNabb's season, and perhaps his football career in Philadelphia, clings to a clich now, to his coach's honoring a sports tradition that says a pro athlete should never lose his starting job because of an injury.

From the moment New England's James Sanders laid his hands on A.J. Feeley's final pass and third interception Sunday night, Andy Reid has insisted that McNabb will remain the Eagles' starting quarterback so long as his sprained ankle and jammed thumb allow him, and he's suffered no setbacks with his still-healing right knee. This is something of a gentleman's agreement in some circles of the sports world — that it's unfair for a player to be replaced in the lineup for something that was out of his control.
