Browser start page provider Netvibes has rolled out a major update, codenamed Ginger, with an assortment of user interface enhancements and intriguing new social networking features. Our extensive firsthand testing during the closed beta gave us plenty of time to evaluate the new functionality.
Browser start pages provide customizable portals to the web that incorporate commonly used functionality from multiple sites. Netvibes competes in this space with Pageflakes, iGoogle, Microsoft Live, and a handful of similar services. Netvibes is principally designed as an RSS reader, but also supports a widget API for embeddable AJAX components that offer access to a wide range of functionality.
I love the new Netvibes Ginger interface and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great RSS feed portal.
I was just upgraded last night to Netvibes Ginger and I also love it and highly recommend it.
How long did the migration take? I signed up for it about 8 hours ago bit I'm still waiting.
I started to upgrade yesterday late afternoon and this morning Ginger was waiting for me.
I've been running the beta for a couple of weeks, and the 'upgrade' then was instantaneous. I do notice it's a little sluggish this morning. Can't imagine why a few hundred thousand users all checking it out simultaneously would have any impact. ;)
It took a little over 9 hours for me.
It is pretty cool, though.
Nine hours!? Wow!
I sure wish we could see some of this technology here, it would help me multitask conversations better.
I'm upgrading as we speak. (I hope!) I'll check back later.
Stupid question: how do you know when you've been 'migrated'?
You'll get an email notifying you. Ginger migration process at Netvibes' blog. I hope this helps.
It does thank you, Mydree. I got the email not long after I asked this question so I am now upgraded. I have to have a play about still but it looks interesting. It took six hours for my migration, if anyone is still waiting.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
