The History Channel is going away. The network's name will now simply be History. This move is being done to promote their attempts to move into other forms of media.
It wouldn't surprise me if, in the near future, it began doing reality television shows with a historical theme.
I hope not!
Hear, hear!

I saw that Simpsons episode... it wasn't very good.
Yeah, I don't want to see it, but the concept of history reality TV has sparked my imagination.
On the HUAC: "Who Wants to be a Communist?"
The Black Plague: "Survivor"
That sorta thing.
The Black Plague: "Survivor"
I thought someone was going to say "Holocaust: Survivor," or something like that. Black Plague... that's not too bad... I guess. :)
Well, I wanted to be clever without being a dick. So thanks a lot...dick.
:P

Now that I've had time to think about it, there actually have been reality TV shows. Remember Frontier House, Colonial House, Manor House, and their ilk on PBS? I do have to admit that I enjoyed Frontier House and Colonial House.
But "traditional" reality TV in a historical context [like the possible scenarios above] would be dreadful.
The History Channel is one of my favorite channels !
Mine too, Tedd. I can see some of the drift though with stuff like Axmen. The Weather Channel's now nearly unwatchable for hard-core weather junkies (technical stuff) like me. It's all features, bimbos (nothing wrong with that now mind you) and soft stuff. Paul Kocin, one of the best winter weather meteorologists, got eased out several years ago.
Used to love that HistoryChannel.com Jeopardy-like game.
I used to like the History Channel, but they seem to play a lot of credulous crap these days. One can only take so many specials on Nostrodamus or aliens at Roswell before credibility takes a serious hit.
"...credibility takes a serious hit."
Yeah, i guess that's what the audience wants. Sad.
The Roswell stuff was getting old for me, no question about that.
Aliens are the new Nazis on The History Channel.
Oh yeah, those damn Neocon Aliens !
All those alien shows are throwing domestic historical reenactors out of work.
Maybe we've seen it all and it's time to make some more history :')
You have come to the end of time. Please go back.
LOL too funny, Please insert history HERE
I wonder how much some of this might be in response to DVR's. I do consider the History channel one of the channels I must have on my channel lineup. That said I use my DVR to pick and choose the programming I want to watch. I wonder how that might affect programming solutions.
Sigh. This channel drift is kinda frustrating but I suppose it is some sort response to the market. I suspect where things are moving though is we will just download the programs from the Internet.
I am also waiting to be able to download on demand from trusted content providers. I am also waiting for my hover car, commercial space flight and meal-pills...
I am waiting for power too cheap to meter, Affordable electric cars and the cure for cancer...
....buddy, the future ain't what it used to be...
