NFL: Let's not split hairs: This is silly

advertisement

When the NFL owners get together for their annual spring meetings at a swanky resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., next week, they'll examine ways to make the league better.

But of all the important items on the agenda, why is hair among them?

That's right, the NFL's deep thinkers will actually talk about how to deal with the length of players' hair.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The NFL owners just want to keep the players in line and it's not like the NFL has any real pressing matters, they make a boat-load of money.

I think that this is a good idea. The game is played by a TEAM. It is not a group of individuals.

I think that the end zone celebrations are ridiculous. Mike Ditka says it best "Why are they celebrated doing what they are paid to do?" They slow down what is already an interminably long game. A game that has 60 minutes of playing time takes 3 hours or more to play.

I played for pay, I think this "individuality" thing has gone way too far. There have to be standards of dress and deportment and they should be enforced.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but, I don't want all of my players looking and acting the same as everybody else; that's boring.

I watch football for fun, for entertainment. I don't want to see a bunch of zombies on the field, devoid of personality; where's the fun in that? This isn't the military, it's the NFL.

yes the hair issue is interesting. as a proud man enjoying male pattern-baldness my opinion adds to the much-coveted diversity of opinion required to explore the feelings and emotions of all issues that may eventually be discussed on another exciting edition of Oprah, in front of our wives. You may exhale now as I share my opinion that to regulate against the hair length of the world's most talented athletes would be the first step down a long slippery slope of person rights infringement. What, will my ticket price now be taxed in California for example to fund all of the laser surgery required to remove the oceans of blue ink consumed for all of the body art on display every weekend? What would the French say? Where are we as a nation if we can no longer wake up with the promise of one athletic specimen pulling down another by the hair. What of our culture? Where will it end? Will old coaches who fear the reprimands of their wives for wearing their trousers above the ankle avoid the coaching ranks? Imagine all of our young men who would otherwise be exposed to the depths of this mentoring forced to watch the endless re-runs of the Bravo network, and an early age be asked to pack their knives and leave.

Sorry this hair thing has me bothered.
