Eagles Pre-Season Game 1

advertisement

Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles open their pre-season in Pittsburgh. Here are a few things to look out for as the Eagles prepare for the regular season.

West-Book
In training camp running backs Brian Westbrook and Lorenzo Booker have reportedly been used a lot together, will the Eagles run a lot of two RB sets in the game?

Between the Lines
LT Tra Thomas and RT Jon Runyan are getting old and banged up, how do they look? How do the back-ups look? This is real important since All Pro Guard Shawn Andrews was expected to play Tackle if needed and he still has not reported to camp.

Can someone other than DE Trent Cole get pressure on the QB? Can the defensive line stop the run?

Kicking Things Around
Last season K David Akers was not accurate from over 38 yards. Reports are that he has had a good camp, did he have a good game?

Australian Punter Sav Rocca is in just his second season of American football. His first season was not that good, has he improved any?

Second round draft pick DeSean Jackson will return kicks, can he be a game-changer?

I don't expect problems from LS Jon Dorenbos so there should not be mistakes with the long snapping.

Tight End
Can the Eagles get passes to the Tight End? L.J. Smith? . . . anyone . . . Bueller . . . Bueller . . .

The Quarterback
This off-season QB Donovan McNabb had shoulder tendinitis, any signs of it? How's his accuracy? Did he run the ball any?

Back-up QB Kevin Kolb will probably get a lot of playing time but don't get too excited if he plays well (or bad). If Kolb ends up being the starter this season then it means the Eagles are having, or will have, a bad season.

Final Note
The Eagles big free agent signing, CB Asante Samuel, will not play. He has been hurt throughout training camp.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

My Dolphins traded Lorenzo Booker to the Eagles. Booker has awesome speed and is similar to Westbrook but obviously is not yet on Westbrook's skill level. Tough division for the Eagles.

Was Lorenzo Booker even part of a 2 RB tandem?

Booker was a great player at Florida State. The previous regime (GM Randy Mueller and coach Cam Cameron) were horrible. When booker was drafted the writers, players and coaches raved about his skills and speed. After alll that hype...he got into about 5 games (if that) at the end of a horrible season.

He will be an excellent addition and insurance policy should Westbrook go down.
