Celebrity Height Estimator - a new feature of Google Search?

Lucy Liu (right) and her on-screen partner.

Last night I was watching the season premiere of Southland and noticed Lucy Liu's height. She looked shorter than I remembered so I searched for her height on Google and got a bit of a surprise. It turns out that it's not so unusual.

By the end of the episode 'Wednesday', the height of Lucy Liu's character was an issue. Don't worry, this is spoiler free but early in the show I thought she looked short compared to the other actors. So I did what anyone with a laptop sitting near them would do, I Googled for her height: how tall is lucy liu .

Lucy Liu is only 5' 3" tall?

As you can see by the screen-cap above, Google Search provided a best estimate of Lucy Liu's height. This surprised me a bit, I just expected links to web sites with people guessing her height. In the past I have also searched for the height of celebrities on IMDB and Wikipedia with no real luck. Now it's a lot easier.

But wait, what about the other search engines? Microsoft's Bing doesn't even say it's an estimate, it comes right out and states Lucy Liu's height (see screen-cap below). Alas poor Yahoo Search returns no height, just a bunch of links. So now you know a few good places to look when you're curious about a celebrity's stature.

Bing is more sure of Lucy Liu's height and also gives her height in meters.

Have you come across any other quirks in search like this?

Did you think Lucy Liu was taller too?

BTW Southland is a great show.

I noticed last night that IMDb has heights for at least some actors. And Lucy Liu is listed as being 5' 3".
