Morhaime covers server, DRM, auction house, and balancing issues.
... In a statement posted to the official Diablo III forums, Morhaime defended the still-controversial decision to require all Diablo III players to have a persistent Internet connection for the game. While he understands the desire for offline play, he said, the requirement was "critical to the long-term integrity of the game experience." He also said the design decision helps Blizzard battle cheating and "game cracks," suggesting that Blizzard sees the requirement at least partially as a form of online copy protection. That's interesting, because Blizzard VP of Online Technologies Robert Bridenbeckertold MTV Multiplayer last year that piracy prevention and DRM concerns didn't factor into the online requirement in the least.
