A screen cap of the new look Digg v1.

Digg was sold off in pieces in July and earlier this month the new owners of the web site released their new version of it. It reminds me of Newser (see screen cap above). They are calling this new look v1, as in Version 1. The old Digg was up to version 3.
The new look is a grid of photographs or graphics from web sites that users have voted in favor of (there's no voting down or 'burying' in old Digg jargon). Many of these links are news articles and several of them are unique. At least it was the first time that I saw a lot of the news articles. This is generally good but some are the odd/strange news variety.
Digg Comments are Gone
The biggest change from the old Digg is the removal of comments. Many people liked the often heated debates in Digg's comments while to others it was just filled with trolls. I'm of the later so I'm not sad to see the end of comments. In Digg's FAQ they hint that some sort of commenting system may be added later but give no further information nor timetable.
Digg v1 Drops Social Networking - Sort of
Also new is that users no longer have their own profile page with the links that they have submitted. I guess this is an additional move against trolls and people voting up specific people's links. For that it's good but what incentive do I have to submit links if I cannot share them with others?
To sign-in on Digg now you will have to use your Facebook or Twitter account. Twitter comments are shown below links so you may wish to it rather than Facebook.
iPhone Only
If you really like the new Digg and want to have an app for it on your mobile device then you better have an iPhone. There's no app for Android or any other system available at the moment and I'm not aware of any plans for the future.
Hold on to Your Old Digg Login Info
You may get access to your old Digg data, see this Digg Archive page for more information.
Finally - No Advertising
The new owners promise no advertising and no sponsorship. So how will they make money? Good question, maybe somehow with your Facebook or Twitter account? Now that's something to think about.
